Cabinet of Curiosities – Beyond the Magic Mirror
The Agricultural Museum is one of Egypt's museum gems. It is in a wonderful old palace and the objects are really fascinating, bizarre and informative. The Palace of Princess Fatima, the daughter of Khedive Ismail, was chosen to be remodelled to house the museum, and the construction of the museum started in November 1930 and it opened in 1938. The museum explains Ancient Egyptian agriculture, plant wealth, cotton, insects, human and animal diseases, nutrition and much more. The interior design resembles somewhat the fantastical dream world of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Most of the text is neatly written by hand and the complete museum design has not changed since 1938. One is transported back in time into another world full of curiosities.
